My works for solo violin/hardanger d’amore are the result of integration of various aspects of my artistic interests and histories. They straddle the line between composition and improvisation, to elicit a unique result upon each performance, and to leave space for . and to challenge the performer to explore their relationship to improvisation, form, tonality. Each peace takes a long time to gestate, so much so that it becomes an almost daily practice to nurture the ideas of the composed fragments until they find their form at the correct time. Because I perform the pieces myself (they are initially meant for me, made for me and the way I work), playing with the fragments, getting to know them, takes time and presence.
