LINE 3 CROSSINGS
Sound Composition 10'20"
screened at Pink Slip Gallery (Mpls) in June 2022 as part of community art share surrounding Line 3 resistance
In May 2021, I visited 17 water crossings along Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline construction route through Minnesota - now carrying Canadian tar sands oil to a refinery in Superior, Wisconsin. I used hydrophones to record the acoustic underwater environment of each water crossing (no two alike), occasionally employing an underwater speaker to play real-time sound in the air through the water. Each environment welcomed me and became my close friend, inviting me into its complexity and essence. The sound composition draws attention to the interruption and desecration of these intimate places.
The trip and piece are inspired by ongoing Indigenous-led resistance to Line 3.
